Counties Day 1
The weekend started off with a particularly gruelly 200 free for the girls with several making finals, leading to many winning medals including a silver, a gold and 2 bronze.
Next came the boys 200m Breaststroke, where Ben Cope became Senior County Champion, with Paul Stanley in Silver Medal position. 7 boys made it through to the age group final, picking up 2 Gold Medals, 1 silver and 1 bronze.
2nd event for the girls was the 100 back with the 10/11 girls winning a bronze and 4th place, the 12 girls winning a 4th place and the 13 and 15 year old girls winning a 5th place all in age group finals.
Next up was the boy's 100 fly which gained Apex a silver and a gold medal in the age group finals. After lunch, the boy's 100 fly championship final took place and saw Finn win a bronze medal. Back to the girls with the 50 fly which resulted in 8 girls in the age group finals (winning a gold and bronze between them) and 1 in the championship final.
The boy's 50 breastroke followed which allowed a new swimmer for whom this was their first counties make it to the age group finals (well done!). 6 boys competed in these finals and won 2 silver and 2 bronze medals between them.
Well done to Thando who achieved 7th in the 50fly championship final which came after this boys event.
The penultimate boy's event was the 100IM which was heat declared winner. Well done to Paul for winning a bronze medal (the only medal which was won in this event by Apex despite many close calls).
The last girls event was the 200 IM which earned us 2 silver medals (well done girls!!).
Finally, the boy's 50 breastroke championship final rounded off the day with Stephen winning gold and thus the title or 50m breast champion 2018 with a time of 31.81. (<- very quick!) A massive congratulations to everyone who swam today. Even if you didn't make any finals there is still tomorrow and know that you swam your best!!
