Report from BUCS

A group of 4 Apex members had a successful meet at the BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) long course champs in Sheffield this weekend. On the biggest weekend of the year for university sport across Britain, Sheffield was host to numerous sports for their national championships. Athletics, karate and badminton to name a few. Ponds Forge was the ideal venue to hold such a prestigious competition and our boys thoroughly delivered. Paul Stanley (Swansea) achieving 2 large pb’s in the 400m IM and 200m breaststroke whilst being one of the youngest at the meet. Jack Rowe (Reading) competed in both of the relays including his first long course 100m butterfly and then 50m freestyle and 50m butterfly hitting just outside of his personal bests. Tom Derbyshire (Bath) achieved a 9th in the final of the 200m freestyle and 2 silver medals in the 400m and 1500m freestyle. Calum Gorman (Leeds) representing them in the 50m, 100m breaststroke and the breaststroke leg in their Medley relay. The swimmers all started with Apex in the region of 10 years ago. All swimmers are still ranked under the club and train when Home. A nice reunion for them all and excellent role models to the younger swimmers.
