Midlands Winter Championships 2017

Racing over for Stafford Apex team of 5 at the Midland winter champs in Nottingham.

Mixed results from all swimmers who all aren’t used to competing long course this early in the season. Used as a ‘commonwealth qualifier’ the meet was changed from short course for this year. The standard at this meet was very high and surely gives each athlete valuable experience.

Finn was just outside his pb for the 100 &200m freestyle but came 6th and 5th in the 15/under age group and with 2 winter national times already in the bag, the aim of qualifying for British champs in both events can still happen With one consideration time already.

Stephen didn’t have the greatest of meets choosing to swim in the 100 and 200m breaststroke but will surely progress as the year goes on.

Simon competed in his first winter Midlands and took advantage with a pb and first time sub-26 seconds long course in the 50 free.

Jack did a couple of pb’s too, with a 25.50 in the 50 free, a 0.6 second pb in the 50 fly and just outside of his 100m free benchmark. Thus continuing his trend of pb’ing at every regionals he has competed in.

Thando was agonisingly close to her 50 fly pb, missing out by 0.01. however being so early in the season this will surely tumble!

Good stuff which shows the speed is here and can only be a help as we go on into Christmas.
